JC Chemistry
Chemistry is more than memorising reactions and formulas. Success in JC Chemistry requires a strong understanding of concepts, the ability to connect ideas across topics, and the confidence to apply knowledge to unfamiliar examination questions.
At METRIS, we help students simplify complex concepts, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and develop the analytical thinking needed to excel in A-Level Chemistry.

Master underlying concepts
Many students find H2 Chemistry challenging because topics are highly interconnected. A weak understanding of one concept often affects performance in several others.
We help students develop a strong understanding of topics such as:
- Atomic Structure
- Chemical Bonding
- Energetics
- Equilibria
- Organic Chemistry
- Electrochemistry
By focusing on the principles behind chemical behaviour, students learn to approach problems with greater clarity and confidence.
Learn How to Apply Chemistry Effectively
A-Level Chemistry questions increasingly require students to analyse unfamiliar scenarios and apply concepts across multiple topics.
Students learn how to:
- Interpret experimental data
- Explain observations clearly and accurately
- Connect concepts across different topics
- Tackle higher-order application questions confidently
This equips students with the skills needed to perform well in both school examinations and the A-Levels.

Learning Outcomes
Strengthen Conceptual Understanding

Develop a clear understanding of core Chemistry concepts and learn how ideas connect across Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.
Master Examination Skills

Learn effective approaches to data analysis, structured questions and application-based problems commonly encountered in JC Chemistry examinations.
Explore Possibilities

Discover how Chemistry drives advancements in medicine, materials science sustainability and biotechnology. By connecting classroom concepts to real-world applications, students gain a deeper appreciation of Chemistry and the possibilities it creates for the future.
About Lead Tutor

Dr. Alson Chng
Dr. Alson Chng pursued his PhD degree with the NUS Graduate School of Integrative Sciences and Engineering (NGS) in NUS, focusing on Medicinal Organic Chemistry. The topic of his Ph.D thesis was “Chondroitin Sulfate-C Disaccharides and Tetrasaccharide in Wound Healing and Cancer”, which focused on the optimization, synthesis and characterisation of natural products and testing its effects as a potential drug on wound healing and cancer.
Dr. Chng also completed his studies in NUS Chemistry with a specialisation in Medicinal Chemistry and a minor in Forensic Science for his Bachelor studies.
He has been a H2 Chemistry tutor for more than a decade and he is currently also a trainer for Chemistry Olympiad.
